Pearson Appoints Elaine Cao as VP of English Language Learning and CEO Pearson Greater China
1 September 2025 Beijing – Pearson (FTSE: PSON.L), the world’s lifelong learning company, today announced the appointment of Elaine Cao as Vice President of English Language Learning and CEO Pearson Greater China, effective today.
In her new role, Elaine will lead strategic planning, market development, and local innovation for Pearson’s English Language Learning portfolio in China, to meet the ever-changing needs of China language learners, test takers and partners. As CEO Pearson Greater China, she will also represent Pearson in close collaboration with government agencies, industry associations, and other key stakeholders – driving sustainable growth and reinforcing the company’s brand presence across the region.

With over 15 years of global management experience,Elaine brings a strong track record in business transformation, ecosystem development, and commercial innovation. Prior to joining Pearson, she held senior leadership roles at Elsevier, a global information analytics company, where she led cross-functional teams to advance digital transformation, spearheaded the local deployment of AI-powered solutions, and became highly adept at collaborating globally across the industry while gaining a deep appreciation of specific local market dynamics.
